The Council’s Head Start Site Administrators are the backbone of our early childhood learning program and are some of the hardest working and most dedicated individuals serving children and families in our Greater Cleveland community. The Our Sight is Set On Your Child’s Future series will introduce our talented team who, along with their staff, will welcome Cleveland’s children for another year of learning and discovery in Head Start centers across the county this school year.

Site Administrator: Arlene Porter
Buckeye Head Start

12100 Buckeye Road
Cleveland, OH 44120

What is your educational background?
I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education from Cleveland State University and I’m working on a Master of Science Degree in Education (Curriculum and Instruction) at Cleveland State University. I also have an Associate of Applied Science degree in Early Childhood Education from Cuyahoga Community College, a Pre-Kindergarten Associate License and an Associate of Arts Degree (Liberal Arts) from Cuyahoga Community College.

What is your favorite thing about what you do?
Each day is different! Working in early childhood education is a medley of diversity and transformation.

What inspires you to do your job?
Being a Site Administrator is demanding and inspiring. My job gives me a sense of purpose to help the minds and hearts of others, a sense of belonging in the hierarchy of education and a sense of connection: building relationships with colleagues, parents, children and the community. I love the “light bulb” moment – seeing children get it is one of my greatest joys.

What’s one thing you would want potential parents to know about your site?
Buckeye Head Start promotes Kindergarten readiness skills and volunteers are always welcome!
