CEOGC News: CEOGC Offers Summer Cooling Program

The Council for Economic Opportunities in Greater Cleveland (CEOGC) will begin accepting applications for summer cooling benefits for electric energy payments on July 1st at its Housing Services Office at 1849 Prospect Avenue.
Eligible households with a member who is sixty (60) years of age or older or has a household member who has an illness that would benefit from assistance can receive assistance with a current electric bill. No physician’s documentation in needed.
Air conditioning units will be distributed to households of senior citizens only. For the purposes of the program, a senior is considered 60 years of age or older. No medical documentation will be necessary to receive a unit.
The maximum benefit for electric energy assistance will be $175. An eligible household has income that is at or below 175% of the federal poverty income guidelines for their household size. For a household of one, the income eligibility standard is $18,952.50 ($4,738.19 for past three months); a household of two, $25,497.50, a household of three, $32,042.50, and a household of four, $38,587.50. Documentation of income and social security numbers for all household members will be necessary to apply for assistance, and applicants must have their current energy bills. The CEOGC Housing Services Office will accept 30 walk-in applicants each day, Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. The office will give priority attention to households with members who are 60 years of age or older.
To request an appointment, county residents must call (216) 518-4014. The appointment line is accessible 24 hours each day, 7 days a week. The final day to apply for summer cooling assistance is August 31st, 2009.
