Early Head Start
Early Head Start
The first three years of life are a time of incredible growth and development in a child’s life. By age three, a child’s brain has grown dramatically, producing billions of cells and trillions of connections between these cells. The young brain is impressionable, which is both positive and negative. Children’s brains are both open to learning and enriching influences, but also vulnerable to developmental issues and the influences for negative environments. It is important to establish healthy structures and patterns for life-long learning in these young minds. The Early Head Start program does that.
Early Head Start provides a family with the support and structure they need to start their early years off on the right foot. Before the child is born, the program provides prenatal support and assistance to the mother, lending a helping hand to make sure that she is ready for the delivery and the arrival of her new baby. This support and assistance includes prenatal coaching, nutritional counseling, childbirth education and newborn and parenting classes. When the child is born, the Early Head Start program offers a nurturing and developmentally enriching environment for the newborn to grow. Once the child reaches six weeks of age, they are ready to join us at school. Our centers feature warm and inviting classrooms with age-appropriate toys, equipment and learning materials. Our trained and caring staff will work with your child to meet developmental benchmarks as they grow from infant to toddler to preschooler. The Council for Economic Opportunities offers Early Head Start services at several locations in Cuyahoga County. Please click here to find a location near you.
