What We Do
The nonprofit Council for Economic Opportunities operates the largest Community Action Agency and the largest Head Start early childhood education program in Ohio and believes that every individual has the ability to reach their full potential. The Council is a recipient of Community Services Block Grant funding.
In order for any of us to succeed, we must be met where we are in our life’s journey. What challenges do we face? What are our strengths? Once these are identified, an individual can be linked to an appropriate counselor, coach or teacher as well as others before them who have strived, been resilient and achieved their dreams. There is hope, and there is opportunity for a better life.
The Council serves residents of Cuyahoga County through:
Enrolling and teaching children and families in early childhood education.
Providing support services to address immediate needs like food and clothing. Discussing a plan to help individuals focus on their strengths to better themselves and their families in the long term.
Encouraging and teaching personal and professional development.
Assisting people with job placement and positions paying a living wage or higher.
…staff helped me write a resume, practice interview skills and taught me how to search for a position that fits my skills. I began my job with Midwest Direct…I truly feel that the support and encouragement I received guided me to my current position which could become a great career.James Everett
My family development specialist really assisted me and encouraged me to better myself and to take control of my life. I feel I have grown as a person.Ashley Williams
I’ve recommended the class to a few of my friends because it is very beneficial. The topics we discuss in customer service and job readiness apply to everyday life. I think this is a great opportunity with likely success upon completion.Latrice Stuart
